Rules of play - Bell Street Project Space, Austellung 18-22 Aug, Glockengasse 22. Wien

Agatha Gothe-Snape, The Outcome is So Uncertain in Vienna, 8 tshirts with text worn by people I haven’t met yet invited by Kathryn Gray to participate via the script: “I AM KATHY. I AM READING AGATHA’S INSTRUCTIONS ALOUD. I AM UNSURE OF HOW THINGS WILL TRANSLATE. I UNDERSTAND I HAVE NEVER REALLY LEFT AUSTRALIA. I AM A PROVINCIAL ARTIST. PERHAPS MY PRACTICE IS RUNNING 6 MONTHS OR 6 YEARS BEHIND THE EIGHT BALL. I JUST DON’T KNOW AS I’VE NEVER BEEN HERE. FROM WHAT I CAN TELL, THE SENSE OF ENGAGEMENT AND ENQUIRY IS MORE RIGOROUS HERE. THERE IS A SERIOUSNESS IN THE AIR. I DON’T KNOW HOW THIS WILL RUB OFF ON THE TSHIRTS. I DONT HOW HOW THIS WILL RUB OFF ON THIS PROJECT. ON ALL OF YOU. NONETHELESS, I INVITE YOU TO WEAR THESE SHIRTS TO THE OPENING OF RULES OF PLAY.
(YOU CAN OF COURSE KEEP THEM AFTERWARDS) YOU CAN CHOOSE THE SHIRT TO KEEP BY WHATEVER LOGIC SEEMS APPROPRIATE. THERE ARE FOUR SENTENCES DISTRIBUTED THROUGHOUT THE 8 TSHIRTS. EACH HAS BEEN USEFUL TO ME IN THE LAST YEAR AS I MAKE WORK AND ALSO AS I NAVIGATE MY EMOTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS. I CAN HARDLY IMAGINE YOU ALL CONVERGING AT THE GALLERY BETWEEN 7.45 AND 7.50 BETWEEN YOUR OTHER DATES AND RESPONSIBILITIES AND SOCIAL ENQUIRIES.
BUT I HOPE THAT IS WHAT HAPPENS. FROM HERE IT IS OF COURSE HARD TO CONTROL. IF ANYONE ASKS YOU ABOUT THE SHIRTS PLEASE REFER TO THE PALM CARD I WILL GIVE YOU. BUT REFER TO IT ONLY AS MUCH OR AS LITTLE AS YOU LIKE. THE BALLS IN YOUR COURT. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR WILLING PARTICIPATION.”, 2010. As worn by Matthias & Mirela 18 August 2010.
